Moths are tiny insects that eat away at our clothes, furnishings, and other items. The first step in removing them is to identify where they’re hiding – do you see moths near plants or clothing? Clothes moths are attracted to certain fabrics such as wool, cashmere, and animal fur. Comforters, blankets, drapes, rugs, and carpets are other items that can be inhabited by clothes moths. Repairing and saving items from clothes moths is ultimately a process of identification. Next, you need to eradicate the pests by throwing away anything that’s damaged or infested with them; then wash out all salvageable pieces for good measure. Make sure you check each label before putting your items in the wash – some may recommend specific temperatures so be aware! Once these steps have been completed thoroughly—ensure each surface has received disinfectant wipe treatment after cleaning. Make sure surfaces have been cleaned sufficiently so no allergens remain present allowing airflow throughout the home without obstruction. Lastly, create a pathway to vacuum and sweep the floor. 

There are a few things you can do in order to keep the clothes moths away. One of these is by maintaining an airtight space for your belongings, consolidating and organizing them into bins with tight-fitting lids or boxes so they have fewer access point opportunities; regularly dusting all surfaces (including closets) where moth larvae may breed. This will help limit breeding population numbers before they get out of control. If possible install lighting around the perimeter while keeping it dimmed near the center–this provides a safer habitat but also makes sure that adults don’t fly into windows looking for mates. Regularly vacuuming and cleaning the space will help keep the moths away.
